AC is working great when car is running. Soon as i stop at a redlight/stop sign, i hear a soft rumbling noise from engine and AC stops blowing cold air. Bad compressor? Also engine temp is not reading on my gauge correctly. After hours of running the vehicle gauge still reads cold. Any ideas?

Sounds like a bad coolant temp sensor. Not really sure about the AC though.

thanks big mike. bringing it to vw on wed. dunno how much they are gonna charge me for service tho? online the sensor retails for $15.

Not sure what would cause that kind of issue...let us know what they come up with.

might be a pressure switch or a low charge due to a leak.

Just got my car back from the dealer...requested to have temp sensor replaced. instead they replaced temp sender. not sure how they knew which one to replace?? only $105 with labor and nys inspection...better than i thought it was gonna be

AC problem still exists...didn't mention to dealer tho, might go see local ac specialist

the tech said timing belt was worn and should be replaced soon. quoted me $445 parts/labor...is that too expensive or should i just suck it up and get it done?

How many miles on it?

I know the last timing belt I did was a good deal more then that, over $300 just in parts, so it sounds like a good deal to me...but maybe someone with a MK4 will chime in (the last two I have done were on B5's)

i would say that the belt should be done by that mileage.
